People came in their numbers for the #Dumsormuststop vigil that took place on May 16 in Accra. Ghanaian actress and producer Yvonne Nelson,
who came up with vigil, was accompanied by Joseph van Vicker, Prince David Osei, D-Black, Efya, DKB, Socrates Safo, Barima Sydney and other celebrities. It started at 4 pm. The route began from Old Legon Gate Bridge to Tetteh Quarshie Park.
Ghanaian comedian David Oscar was also present, not to mock the vigil but to support it. According to him, he is affected by the ongoing energy crisis too, this he said in an interview with Citi FM. He received a lot of insults from Ghanaians on social media when he made a statement that he wouldn’t partake in the #dumsormuststop trend. Many went on to assume that he wouldn’t attend the vigil.
Sarkodie and Lydia Forson didn’t attend the vigil. Lydia Forson is currently out of the country and Sarkodie is in the U.S. working on music collaboration with American rapper Ace Hood.
The energy crisis that Ghana is facing right now has been going on for more than three years. There is no word from the government or from ECG themselves as to why it has worsened, what led to the power crisis and what they would embark on to fix the problem.
A Sarkodie look-a-like was present at the vigil and received a lot of attention.
Yvonne Nelson has been named by some people as the ‘Yaa Asantewaa’ of our time.
Yvonne Nelson has really made history and also made Ghanaians proud.
