Pastor Dunamis and Sophia Okunowo are Marriage Therapists and Counsellors.
They have been involved in ministry and pastoring for over sixteen years. They are the authors of KHC Devotional which is read in over 200 countries.
Furthermore, they have counselled people from virtually every continent on earth bringing God’s counsel to several people and providing positive intervention for crisis-laden marriages.
I interviewed Pastor Dunamis Okunowo. He studied Geography and Regional Planning in Olabisi Onabanjo University in Nigeria. He obtained a Masters Degree in Communication and Language Arts in the University of Ibadan. He and his wife and children live in Ibadan.
PN Iridescent: When did God call you into ministry?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: The year was 1997. I had just graduated from university and the call of God came on me very strongly.
PN Iridescent: Did you ever think of becoming a pastor?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: The answer is no. It wasn’t part of my plan. But a few years before I graduated from the university, I would always see myself preaching.
PN Iridescent: How did it all began with Kisses and Huggs Club?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: Even though God had told me about teaching on relationships as far back as 1998, I didn’t understand what it was then and KHC only materialized in 2007 with about three hundred students of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. It later became an online ministry in 2010.
PN Iridescent: What are the challenges you have faced in running KHC?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: In my first two years of writing devotionals, I had no feedbacks, no comments and I didn’t know if anybody was getting blessed.
PN Iridescent: How do you combine KHC with taking care of your family?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: Well, with an understanding family, it has been easy. I share the vision with them, and we are all focused on getting God’s work done. I tried to create a balance so that the boys don’t see ministry as taking away their father from them. And then, of course, God’s grace has always been there. We have over fourteen registered members on our site presently.
PN Iridescent: How do you feel when someone you haven’t met before, who often speaks to you on the phone, calls you his/her pastor?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: Well, the issues they share with me engenders compassion, and the compassion demands anointing. It was always like I’ve known them for a long time, and that expected ‘disconnect’ is not usually there.
PN Iridescent: Have you ever counselled a couple outside Nigeria who are in courtship?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: Severally, from virtually every continent on earth!
PN Iridescent: What was your experience?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: Well, the devil’s method is the same everywhere, and the solution, which is God’s word will work for anybody from anywhere in the world. God always had the victory.
PN Iridescent: What is your view on pre-marital sex?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: It is not a kingdom style. It not what we do as children of God. Sex is reserved till after marriage for children of God. If you are entangled, you need to disconnect, in order to save your future.
PN Iridescent: You and Pastor Sophia organized a Mega-Conference on November 29 in Ibadan Nigeria, for singles and married couples. How did it go? How as the atmosphere?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: It was a good experience and the atmosphere was filled with the Holy Spirit. Several lives were touched and we give all the glory to God.
PN Iridescent: Will it be organized annually?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: Yes, it is our annual programme.
PN Iridescent: Any plans concerning KHC in 2015?
Pastor Dunamis Okunowo: Great plans. We shall be unveiling them gradually. You can join us on www.kissesandhuggs.org
PN Iridescent: What is your advice to singles out there?
Pastor Dunamis: Stay with God. Refuse to compromise. Honour God in your life and sow the right seeds.
