Music producer and musician, Nana Osei, popularly known as Nacee, has asked fellow musicians to measure their lyrics and desist from punctuating their songs with profanity.

His comment comes on the back of a statement from the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) which raised red flag over the incessant use of profane lyrics in songs.

The statement called on musicians and songwriters to desist from writing songs with profane lyrics as it had no positive impact on the populace.

“As much as the Union appreciates the creative liberties of song writers to freely express themselves, it is essential that artistes appreciate the impact of their songs on the public especially in an era where technology has made it relatively easier for songs to be heard. MUSIGA is therefore urging all musicians to be mindful of the need to provide inspiring and positive lyrics in our songs,” portions of the statement read.

Nacee, speaking to Hitz FM, agreed with the union and added his voice to the call.

“Some things are for kids; some for adults. So whatever we do, we should be mindful. We should think about the next generation that is it okay for anybody to consume this? If it is not for certain age to consume, advice yourself,” he said.

The leader of music group, No Tribe, is set to release his sole album, “The Counsellor”. His love song titled, “Menewaa” generated a debate between music lovers. Some argued that they least expected a gospel musician to toe that line.

But the musician asserted that the lyrics were clean, adding that if pastors can preach about sex in church, he is equally eligible to sing about love and touch on sex-related topics as they are everyday human-related topics of great concern.
