Ditch These Habits In 2017

You’re probably worn out by now from fronting your favorite New year, new me cliché all week and preparing to face 2018 as the best version of yourself. With only a few hours to the new year, let us take a moment to ignore the phrase “Old habits die hard” and actually highlight a few habits you should ditch in 2017 If you believe in new beginnings.

  1. Being a wiseacre. If you don’t have a friend in your circle that is a smart ass then you’re most likely to be that friend and trust me no one likes a know-it-all. If they are your friends, they will like you for who you are not because you know the latest gadgets, shoe store in town or the latest movie and where it is screening. Believe me. It is a lot to keep up with which explains why most people would rather feign knowledge that accept that they don’t know. wise
  2. Unhealthy competition. Heard of the phrase “One man’s meat is another man’s poison?”. This simply means that what works for someone else may not necessarily work for you. Therefore, don’t measure your success based on the achievements of someone else. As much as this keeps you motivated to work harder, extremism causes frustration and eventually depression in case you fail to keep up with whoever you’re comparing yourself to.Bullying-in-the-workplace
  3. Band wagon effect. This is a psychological phenomenon in which people do something primarily because other people are doing it, regardless of their own beliefs which they may ignore or override. I’ll admit to sometimes doing stuff because my friends are doing them but once in a while take a moment to self reflect and ask yourself if this is what you would rather be doing and if it benefits you in anyway.
